Bedford Modern Sixth Form

At BMS we have a comprehensive UCAS programme that focuses on making early applications to University. We normally expect to get over 80% of our applications off by the early application deadline of the 15th October.

Why is this important?

Our focus on UCAS and the early deadline provides powerful motivation in Y12 and helps students understand the importance of performance at AS level. In addition an early application means an early offer in November and again for Y13 this provides an important focus for any re-sits or modules they are taking in January. It also gives students a real focus for their final year - a time when it can sometimes be hard for students to motivate themselves in their 13th year of education!

How do we do it?

We have a series of workshops, lectures and enrichment programmes focused on UCAS that begin in January of Y12. We expect all students to be registered and have a draft personal statement ready by the end of June. Our Y13 Induction Day in September kick starts the Autumn Term focusing students on making decisions and completing applications by the end of September.

How successful are we?

Approximately 84% of our students made their first choice University course in 2008. See Analysis.
